A new chapter begins: Peaches and Pecans

You think to yourself when you are a child that time and people never change.  How wrong and naive we all during that childhood state in our lives.  Life flies by at an astounding rate but it is a beautiful and often fantastic ride.

In a mere 3.5 years I have gone from 'childless' to 'with child'.  My kiddo is great and is getting bigger all the time. She is smart, very funny, and witty as hell.  The discussions she comes up within the twilight hours of the morning would make any Harvard psych professor begin a new case file on child psychology immediately even before his/her morning coffee.

She is also brave, fearless, and extremely empathetic towards others.  I've always had the ability to feel what others are feeling most of my life and am proud to have passed on those genes. With this being said, at times, she can have the temper of a tiger-cat! Hence the title of the blog: 'Raising Bel'

Yes, she is an AWESOME child.  Just a little mischievous at times :)

The whole family just recently relocated to Northern Georgia for a new adventure and to raise our kid closer to family. Since we have moved we of course get asked that question as soon as we speak, "From where did y'all come from?"  I respond with, 'We just moved from Maine!' Most people smile and have a story to tell about Maine. Then they reply, 'Well....you are gonna LOOOVVVEEEE the winters down here!'

I must say I do love the winters down here.  I grew up in the south for many years and enjoyed the ability to get out and about in the winter. This is probably the first time in 6 or 7 years that I don't have to wear long-johns to bed and to the office at work!  And my Bel seems to be enjoying the fact that she can run and ride her tricycle around the local parks and not worry about slipping on frozen tundra.

No ice to slip on, no two feet of snow to shovel, and no pouring boiling water in the outside track of my sliding glass door to remove the ice buildup that developed up against the door during a storm when snow subsequently thawed against the warmth of the glass, then filled the track, and then refroze into ice in the track. Ugh! This prevented me from getting out of my house that morning to access both of our cars (which need to be started at least 20 mins before you leave for work) that were blanketed by at least 18 inches of fresh white stuff.  NOPE...don't miss that at all.

Maine usually doesn't get the harsher response or cringe that most New England states receive from Southerns. Fans of Dixie do not necessarily complain about the Yankees up north, they just don't want them moving down here and begin changing everything to the 'Southern Hamptons' or  'Martha's Vineyard Southeast'. No, most of NE gets a bad wrap because most of NE doesn't know how to live down South.

Things to know: Be kind to your neighbors, don't be rude, help the elderly, cook BBQ, drive smart and use your blinker, chase snakes away, go fishing, don't drink and boat, only drink and float in an inner-tube down a lazy river, and of course take life a little slower.  Not one rushes around and everyone loves to talk.

Anyone who has been to Maine knows that it is not quite New England. (even though everyone in Maine cheers for the New England Patriots.) No.... Maine is more like the south then most realize.  It is unto itself and unlike any other place altogether.  If it is connected to anything the likelihood would be the great country of Canada.  Kinda like the red-headed southern step-child of Canada. Wild, independent, and fiercely hardy.

We do miss Maine and all of our friends there.  It was a hard decision to leave and uproot everything that we had built over the course of many years.  Our dog, Ernie, misses the fact that he could run off leash for many acres and chase whatever he wanted all the time!  Turkey, deer, bear, squirrels, and his arch nemesis 'Mr. Crow'. But things do change and choices have been made.  It is a new and interesting chapter in our lives and we hope to provide the best upbringing possible for our daughter.

Oh, did I tell you?!?  This place has the best aquarium in the world!!!  Georgia Rocks!
